Responsibility and Blame

FOR APPROXIMATELY 40 YEARS WE HAVE TAUGHT OUR CHILDREN THAT THEY NEED NOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR ACTIONS. THERE IS ALWAYS SOMEONE ELSE YOU CAN BLAME…
I recall conversations with my friends back in the late 1970’s when I was in my mid-teens. We all agreed that this new “political correctness” thing was stupid and dangerous. As relative children (teenagers), we recognized that this gave people the ability to blame and harm others over hurt feelings. We all recognized that putting blame on, and punishing, people for the hurt feelings of others would be extremely damaging to society and the economy.
Everyone knows that if you seek to please everyone, you will likely please no one. “One man’s meat is another man’s poison.” No matter how sweet, or apologetic, you are, you will upset someone. It is ludicrous to blame any Human for the hurt feelings of another Human. You never know when compliments will be viewed as insults, or insults will be viewed as compliments. Words Do Not, and Can Not, cause harm by themselves. Harm can not be caused by vocal utterances. Only the “interpretation” of those utterances. No one should ever be punished over words that do not contain specific threats, nor directly result in specific physical damage or losses. Issues with spoken words need to be dealt with at the “Social” level, not with legal action.
Our society has also been handing out trophies to children who lose competitions. These “participation trophies” lead children to believe that they deserve to be acknowledged for doing well when they actually fail. These children then grow up to be disgruntled adults who become mad at the world and other people when they do not win for being failures as adults. Since their upbringing told them that they can be useless losers and still get a trophy, they blame other people and situations when they are not acknowledged for being a useless as an adult.
Today, due to all of this “political correctness” it has become commonplace for people to blame others for their actions and get away with it. Some people have even taken to blaming people in today’s society for the actions of other people from over 100 years ago. We must return to the true meaning of Liberty which means that you are responsible for your own actions.
